Colombian pianist Andrés Gómez Bravo leads a wide career as a soloist, collaborative pianist and teacher. He has performed in festivals and conferences around the world including presentations at “Pianoforte” and “Clarineafit” at the EAFIT University, “Women in Music Festival” at the Eastman School of Music, the College Music Society International Conferences in Argentina (2013) and Sweden and Finland (2015), as well as chamber music recitals in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Colombia.
Dr. Gomez has collaborated with numerous artists such as Braunwin Sheldrick (Canada), Tabatha Easly (USA), Aleksandr Haskin (Belarus), León Giraldo (Colombia), Elisabeth Osorio (Colombia), Blanca Uribe (Colombia),Teresita Gómez (Colombia) Roberto González (Spain), Fernando Silveira (Brazil), Marco Mazzini (Perú) and Javier Arias (Mexico), among others. Dr. Gomez has also performed extensively with the Colombian mezzo-soprano Martha Senn, having given numerous recitals including a performance at the National Arts Center in Ottawa, Canada. In 2014 was invited with his wife, violist Braunwin Sheldrick, to perform in Camberra, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand, for the celebration of the 20th of July by the Colombian Embassy.
As a soloist, Andrés has performed with the EAFIT University Symphony Orchestra, the Medellín Philharmonic, the Antioquia Symphony Orchestra and the UNAB Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Cecilia Espinosa, Nick Palmer, Carlos Andrés Botero, Andrés Jaime and Alejandro Posada.
As a recording artist, Andrés has recorded the Concierto para Clavicembalo y Guitarra by Chilean composer Mario Gomez-Vignes with the EAFIT University Symphony Orchestra, as well as the CD Ecos de la Villa, which features Colombian piano music from 1900 to 1910, two CDs of Colombian chamber music featuring the clarinet with Dr. Javier Vinasco, the CD “Música de cámara académica en Medellín”, project directed by Victor Agudelo, two CDs with Acuarimántima with pieces for clarinet, viola and piano, a CD of Colombian music for viola and piano with Dr. Braunwin Sheldrick, a CD of piano music by composers related to EAFIT, and a CD of piano music by Colombian composers.
His interest in contemporary music has lead him to the creation, with composer Andrés Posada, of the Ensamble de Música Nueva (now Periscopio), at EAFIT University in the year 2000. He has premiered pieces by Marco Alunno, Andrés Posada, Miguel Rodrick, Mark Olivieri and Victor Agudelo, and the European premiere of “Spectacular Vernaculars” by Mark Olivieri. In 2018 gave the premier of “Circular Sur”, a concerto for piano and orchestra by composer Victor Agudelo. In 2019 premiered the concierto “Concertanzas”, written for his trio Acuarimántima and orchestra by Costa Rican composer Sergio Delgado.
Dr. Gomez received his BM from EAFIT University, his MA from Eastern Michigan University and his DMA from the Eastman School of Music. His main teachers were Lise Frank, Radostina Petkova, Joel Shoenhals, Rebecca Penneys and Blanca Uribe. He is a recipient of the Carolina Oramas Scholarship given by the Colombian Government. Dr. Gómez is currently head of the piano department at the EAFIT University and artistic director of the Fundación Música de Cámara de Medellín, dedicated to promotion of local artists.
